Probate

Solicitors always advise of the importance of clients making a proper will. It is only by making a will that you can ensure that your estate is distributed in accordance with your wishes. If you do not have a will, the law lays down strictly the way in which the estate is divided and this may not be the way you would wish.

A word of caution must be sounded about the drawing up of a will. It is possible to buy pre-printed forms in shops but we would strongly advise against trying to write a will yourself. Wills have to be drawn up properly and if something is incorrect, then the whole will could be invalid. Also you need to be very careful about how legal terms are used without knowing exactly what they mean.

A will is something which should be reviewed on a regular basis and changed if necessary to take account of change in your personal or financial circumstances. This can be done quite simply.

Our current charges for the preparation of a Will is £60.00 per Will plus VAT. However if the Will is complicated or additional advice is needed additional charges will be incurred and we will notify beforehand of the same. If you are a couple and wish to have "mirror" wills by e-mailing us with your instructions detailing your full names, address, beneficiaries' full names and addresses, appointment of any guardians for minor children and who you would wish to act as your executors we will prepare both Wills at a discounted price of £90.00 plus VAT.  At present, we do not make any charge for storage in our strong-room.

If you wish some independent person to be your Executor, we may be able to act, if asked.

We will ensure that the estate of a deceased person is distributed in accordance with the terms of the will or, where there is no will, the laws of intestacy. This involves gathering in all money and other assets, discharging any debts due by the estate and then paying out the bequests to the beneficiaries.
